Paul Rivard served from 10 August 1915 to 12 May 1919
2nd Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps
(Canadian Army during World War I)

Paul Rivard was born in Montreal in 1896 and grew up in Emerson, Manitoba where his dad had a pool hall and barbershop. Paul and his brother Knapp joined the Army in Winnipeg. Paul was a sharp shooter and then trained as machine gunner.

He was wounded in the trenches and left for dead at the field hospital until someone noticed he was still alive. He then received care and was sent to England for further treatment.

Paul received a letter from King George in 1918. Later, he played professional hockey in Saskatoon and Regina. His injuries from the war - shrapnel in his spine and stomach - put an end to his career. Paul played against players like Eddie Shore, who was a defenseman. Paul was a forward and went through Eddie for five goals one night.

Paul had a poolroom, barbershop in Meyronne (Saskatchewan), Innisfail (Alberta), and later on in Vernon, B.C. He had many trophies in trap and skeet shoots.

Paul died on February 1, 1991 at age 95.
