By the end of August the strike was all but over. Mine owners and the UMWA decided that preference for employment would be given first to the returning veterans, second to white men with mining experience, and third to the "aliens". However, it didn't take long for mine operators to notice the reduction in production. Soon, many of the veterans were replaced with the more experienced immigrant "alien" miners, and peace would return to the valley...until the next strike.
