Technological objects versus human subjects is the most pressing of polarities and includes the polarity of ornament and function. Although the seeming polarity between ornament and function has its usefulness in a discussion of artworks, a consideration of this exhibition becomes more fruitful if we consider a middle ground, the spectrum between the two terms--use and ornament--which never exist as pure, seperate forms or outside of material phenomena. These categories themselves are representational constructions and as such are manipulable and revisable.
