The History of Education in Magog, Québec

From the Pioneers to the Quiet Revolution

The Magog Historical Society is pleased to welcome you to the “History of Education in Magog: From the pioneers to the Quiet Revolution” exhibit.

During your visit, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the evolution of education in this Eastern Townships city prior to 1964, when education became the responsibility of the Québec Ministry of Education. You will discover pivotal moments in the development of education in Magog from 1817 to 1964, that is to say, from the creation of the first school by Ralph Merry III in his own home through to Québec’s Education Reform.

In addition to research material, there are numerous photographs, maps and audio clips at your disposal. Please feel free to click on each of these documents in order to enlarge them, to access their accompanying text and to learn their origins.

Enjoy your visit!

This exhibit has been made possible thanks in large part to the archival funds of the Magog Historical Society.
